Dr Mark McKean Editor in Chief PhD AEP CSCS

Dr Mark McKean is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at University of Sunshine Coast and practicing Strength & Conditioning Coach. Dr McKean is current Head S&C Coach with USC Spartans Performance Swimming Program and has an extensive background in fitness and strength and conditioning coaching athletes in a range of sports to international level success including Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medals. Currently he is a Level Three Master Strength and Conditioning Coach through ASCA, an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with ESSA, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through NSCA America, and a Level 3 Exercise Professional with Fitness Australia.

Brendan Burkett

Professor Brendan Burkett PhD

Brendan is a Sport Scientist at the University of the Sunshine Coast, following work as a professional Engineer and an international sporting career. Brendan was Paralympic Champion, World Champion, World Record holder, Commonwealth Games and Australian multiple medallist in swimming. He captained the Australian Paralympic Team to Atlanta in 1996, and was also the Opening Ceremony Flag bearer in Sydney 2000. Brendan’s achievements also extend to a degree and masters in engineering, followed by a PhD in Biomechanics. The combination of engineering and human movement qualifications with sporting experience enables Brendan to understand human health and performance.

Greg Hurst

Greg is a pioneer of the Australian fitness industry and a world leader in fitness. An Australian representative in white water kayaking and canoeing, he left physical education teaching to pursue a career in fitness, becoming Australia's first National Aerobics Champion and first National Workshop Presenter. As International Master Trainer for Reebok, Greg was at the forefront of every key fitness industry development in the 80s and 90s. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to be a Founding Director of Australian Fitness Network, Les Mills International, Zest Health Clubs, Healthy Inspirations, and Australian Institute of Fitness®.

Nigel Champion

Nigel Champion

Nigel is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Australian Fitness Network – a company that provides resources, education and conventions to its 12,000 members comprising Owner/Operators, Personal Trainers and Group Exercise Instructors. Nigel has served on the Boards of the Australian Institute of Fitness, Fitness Australia, Australian Coaching Council, Australian Council for Health Physical Education and Recreation and Squash Australia. He currently serves on the Board of Les Mills international.
